Works by composers from three continents come together to soak in the full moon’s glow. Berkeley Symphony musicians and friends perform six small-ensemble pieces written by living composers from three cities: two from San Francisco, two from Hamburg, and two from Shanghai.
Composers, Inc., in its 34th season, will present the 5th annual !BAMM! (Bay Area Modern Music) concert this spring. !BAMM! brings together Bay Area composers and performers in a festival-like environment that brings an enthusiastic close to the season. This year, the featured ensembles are SopraDuo, Siroko Duo, and violinist/composer Michèle Walther.
In conjunction with curator Emma Logan at the Center for New Music, Elevate presents this all-woman program. The amazing Evan D. Kahn will be performing an early solo cello piece of mine, Media Luna. Elevate interviewed me about revisiting an early composition, and you can read it here.
The all-female group, Hubbard Quartet, presents a program of all female composers in their first concert tour of the West Coast. In collaboration with curator Emma Logan, the program includes Julie Barwick’s “Shroud” and Vivian Fine’s “Capriccio”, and the West Coast premiere of Devree Lewis’ “Luz de Agosto” and Marilyn Zupnick’s “Oboe Quartet No. 1.”
Elevate Ensemble presents a concert of pieces inspired by Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale” as well as the original piece itself. As part of my composer-in-residence with Elevate, they will be premiering my new piece that picks up the story 33 years after the end of the original “The Soldier’s Tale.”
