Elevate Ensemble's 2017/18 Composer-in-Residence
I’m pleased to announce that I will be Composer-in-Residence with Elevate Ensemble for their 2017/18 season. I’ve long attended their concerts, and have especially admired their selection of repertoire - a blend of brand new works, many commissioned by Elevate, as well as unfamiliar pieces that should be classics. Their conductor, Chad Goodman, is a captivating leader and I’m delighted to work with him and the other fine Elevate musicians.
For this year, I’ll be writing two brand new pieces. The first one will be paired with Stravinksy’s L’histoire du soldat for the exact same instrumentation which is a kind of pared-down marching band: clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, violin, double bass, and percussion. As L’histoire is one of my all-time favorite pieces, I’m excited (and a little daunted if I’m being honest!) to write for this instrumentation.
